The difference of today’s society and society of the ‘50’s is really interesting. The idea of trusting everything the government does is rediculous now, and so is the idea of conformity. Everyone today is trying to stand out and get ahead and be different, whereas back then everyone strived to be the same.
The peoples’ hypocrisy about religion during the 50’s was really shocking. I loved the statistic that 95% of americans claimed to be christians, but half of them couldn’t even name one of the gospels! Consumerism also was cool to learn about. Most of the sale techniques invented then are still used today, but it’s cool to know they came from conformity and fear of communism.
